National Poetry Day
Thursday 3rd October, 2.00pm to 4.30pm
A talk on Philip Larkin by Rob White. Rob has delighted people previously with his talks on Philip Larkin and this time he will choose a final selection of Larkin poems to give attendees further insight into his life and works. This will be followed by a Poetry Café on the theme of Truth. Take along a poem to share or simply enjoy listening. Tickets at £1.00 include refreshments. Booking is advised.

Crime Cafe
Tuesday 8th October, 2.00pm to 3.30pm
Join Retford Library staff for a crime themed afternoon. Tickets are £1.00 and include refreshments. Booking is advised.

Keeping it Local
Thursday 10th October, 6.00pm to 7.30pm
Local authors Barry Upton and Graeme Cumming will talk about how local settings become prominent features in their works, as well as sharing their experiences of getting published. Graeme’s first novel, Ravens Gathering, is set in the haunting woodlands of Sherwood Forest and Barry uses Retford as the setting for his novel The Academy published in 2016. Tickets are £2.00 and include refreshments. Booking is advised.

Monthly Tabletop Gaming Day
Saturday 26th October, 10.00am to 3.00pm
Calling all gamers! Retford Library is inviting you to attend a new style of board gaming. These games come from all over the world and have a different style and playability than the more traditional board. There are also games suitable for families and for adult gamers of all different ages and experience. Free drop-in session.

Halloween Book Night
Wednesday 30th October, 6.30pm
Local writer and horror literature enthusiast Martin Jones will share his favourite ghost and horror stories and asks that you bring along yours to share too especially for Halloween. Further details are available from the library. Tickets are £2.00 and include refreshments. Booking is advised.

Half-term Story Theatre — The Grimm tales
Three story theatre sessions taking place in the children’s library for primary school age children to participate in. Sessions last 50 minutes. Children must be accompanied by an adult. These are free sessions but booking is advised.

  • Monday 28th October, 2.00pm — Piper — A dramatic telling of the tale of The Pied Piper of Hamelin
  • Tuesday 29th October, 2.00pm — Chorus — A dramatic telling of the tale of The Musicians of Bremen
  • Wednesday 30th October, 2.00pm — Spin — A dramatic telling of the tale of Rumpelstiltskin

Writers’ Group
Thursday 10th and 24th October, 2.00pm to 4.00pm

Craft and Coffee Club

Local and Family History Drop-In Surgery
Need advice about family or local history? A local studies librarian will be on hand from 10.00am to 1.00pm on Thursday 17th October.

Rattle, Rhyme and Roll
Every Wednesday and Friday, 10.00am to 10.20am
Songs, rhymes and musical instruments for babies and toddlers.

Many other services are available at the library. Free access to Research, Ancestry, British Newspaper Archive and Which? are available on Library PCs. There is also free printing for homework. Please ask for details.
