Now in their ninth year, the Retford branch of the U3A now has a membership of over 500 people. There are around 50 interest groups and new members often join the U3A, specifically to join just one group. There is a full general U3A meeting, held once a month, at the Well Baptist Church, Retford, on the fourth Thursday of the month.

November is always a month to remember and this year has special significance for those of us who lost relatives in the Great War, which ended 100 year ago this month. It was such a traumatic event, that it would be totally wrong if organisations like the U3A forgot or didn’t bother to remember those who didn’t return.

The British Legion’s ‘Festival of Remembrance’ to be held in Retford’s Market Square at 10.45am on Sunday 11th November. It will be well attended by members of many of the U3A interest groups and members of the committee.
Proposal forms have now been produced for nominations to fill the posts of chair and secretary, and will be available at the next general meeting. The scheduled speaker at this meeting is Vince Eager, who will tell of his time in show business.

The ethos of the U3A, which stands for The University of the Third Age, is that members keep themselves active in body and mind, learning from each other, with shared knowledge and experiences.
