Retford U3A

Retford U3A had a good meeting in October, when Phillip Caine delivered his presentation entitled ‘From Barrow to Bagdad’. At a recent committee meeting members discussed how to encourage members who come to the monthly general meeting at the Well Baptist Church, to pop upstairs to see what some of the interest groups are displaying. Quite often you will see samples of craft work, whether it be quilting, knitting or lacework. The Gardening Group always have information, as do the combined walking groups. Information is also usually available for Family and Military History, with examples of research in family trees and information on forthcoming trips and talks with the Military History Group.

The U3A is a national organisation, with branches all over the country. Each group has slightly different memberships available. At Retford U3A the year runs from April to March, but from the beginning of January you can pay your subscription which will be valid until April 2021. This is especially useful, if you are thinking of joining Retford’s U3A.
It may be you already have friends who go along to U3A and are members of an interest group. The committee, at a recent meeting, issued an open invitation for non-members to visit, as a guest, any of the interest groups where you would be made welcome.

The group have started our autumn series of monthly general meetings at The Well Baptist Church in Retford. These meetings take place on the fourth Thursday of each month. Usually people start arriving around 1.00pm and the formal meeting starts around 1.30pm. In the upstairs room of The Well, you will find representatives of Members try to keep themselves active in body and mind, learning from each other, with shared knowledge and experiences.
