Dukeries Woodturning Society

The first meeting of Dukeries Woodturning Society’s new year on 22nd January was their AGM and social. On this evening everyone had their chance to discuss the running of the club, to enjoy the refreshments and to catch up with everyone’s news. It always seems a long winter break as the group don’t have a December meeting.

January is the start of their new year and is the month when subs fall due. The cost is a very reasonable £15.00 per annum, after which members pay £5.00 a night to attend. New members and first time visitors are welcomed free of charge, which gives an excellent opportunity for anyone who has made a resolution to go along to try at no risk before committing to joining. You get maximum benefit from membership if you join early in the year.

Once a quarter the society hold hands-on evenings, when there are a number of lathes available to try your hand on with advice from more experienced members. There is also an opportunity to get your tools sharpened on these evenings. If you need to buy wood or materials, they have regular stands at their meetings where you can buy them. They also take part in local events at venues such as Newark Showground and members are welcome to help there.
Visitors and guests are welcome at any meeting. They can be found at the Jubilee Hall in Ollerton at 7.30pm. The programme of expert demonstrators until June is:

  • 26th February — Mick Hanbury
  • 25th March — Richard Findley
  • 22nd April — Steve Heeley
  • 27th May — Tony Kitchen
  • 24th June — Sue Harker
