‘For Bravery in the Field’– A WWI talk by local author and historian Harry Foxley
Thursday 8th November, 7.00pm to 8.30pm
Harry Foxley will share information from his latest book, ‘For Bravery in the Field’. Describing some of the action and circumstance which characterised trench warfare along the Western Front from 1914 to 1918, he will reveal stories of gallantry resulting in medals recognizing heroism above and beyond the call of duty. Such medals were awarded to one hundred of the Retford town and local area men serving with the Royal Navy and British Army. Booking is essential. Tickets cost £1.00 to include refreshments.
Exhibition: ‘1918: Retford At War’
Throughout November 2018
This display marks the centenary of the end of the First World War and remembers the contribution of servicemen from Retford and surrounding areas. It includes information and photographs from the library’s local studies collection, and from local researchers. Come along to learn more about local men who lost their lives in 1918 battles, and men honoured for bravery. The exhibition is free and can be viewed in the library’s gallery during library opening hours.
