The second meeting in July saw Stan Foster, Retford Lions Club’s new president, chairing and introducing their guest speaker Lauren Whitlam, CEO of Citizens Advice in Retford. An interesting talk ended with a promise to co-operate more closely in future as we slowly come out of lockdown. The integration of resources can only be good for the district and the town.
The club are planning a repeat of an event which was successful before the COVID crisis – a Car Boot Sale and Auto Jumble. This will take place at Retford Cricket Club on Sunday 26th September. It is priced at £5.00 per car and free entry for the public. Gates will open at 7.30am for cars and 8.00am for the public.
Looking further in the calendar, the club are planning a sixties night at the Majestic Theatre on 26th February 2022. Check the theatre website for details.
Retford Lions provide ongoing support for Bassetlaw Food Bank, both practically and with goods. They are currently supporting the charity’s initiative to give households in need, fresh fruit and veg. It gave them great pleasure to award a certificate of appreciation to their suppliers Messrs Latham and Lewis, who generously help them with supplies, and through the Lions, donate themselves. Their market stall has provided fresh produce on Retford market for many years, and the club thank them for their continued support.
