Ordsall Scarecrow Weekend will be on 11th and 12th September, all over Ordsall and surrounding area.
It is a great occasion for the family to cycle and walk about waving their orange coloured maps (£2.00 each from local outlets including Spar Shop on Welbeck Road and the Co-op), spotting the huge variety of entries in front gardens and other places.
It has become a real community event when people meet their friends and neighbours and a good time is had by all. And boy do we need that!
It is a busy weekend in the town, but the scarecrows always bring a stream of visitors. Proceeds are in aid of the Ordsall Parish Hall, a community venue open for hire at very reasonable rates for parties and regular groups (contact Deb Aston on 07903 949160).
Jonny and Lynnette are back at the Parish Hall on Saturday 2nd October at 7.30pm for their twice postponed traditional country and western gig. They have bookings held over from the previous date, which are being honoured, and the Box Office is open for more bookings for what always is a sell-out show. Tickets are available at £12.00 adult and £6.50 child (includes interval food) from Peter and Shirley on 01777 706433 or email Thomas_peterf@hotmail.com. An award-winning duo, their brand of humour and music always bring smiles to the faces of the audience, young and those with more maturity!
Live & Local Shows are in the pipeline. At the time of writing they have not crawled out the end of the pipe but they are confident they can tell you more about them in the October issue.
Lastly, Ordsall readers will be heartened to know the Summer Fair on 31st July around the church raised a splendid £905.89 for church maintenance funds. Thanks to all who supported the event.
