Nev Hethershaw, a member of Beckingham Bowls Club since the 1990s, sadly passed away on 4th November. He had recently celebrated his 94th birthday and contributed a great deal to the club both on and off the green, and also contributed greatly to village life in general.

He was still playing in the Isle of Axholme Leagues in 2019 and was a very good bowler. He was responsible for raising valuable funding through grants and was well liked among the bowling fraternity, being captain of the club’s Gainsborough Bowls League team until 2012. He subsequently became captain of the club’s Isle of Axholme Pensioners’ League team for three years.

He also acted as Beckingham’s village hall representative, was a very good club man always willing to provide advice and physical help, and most of all was one of life’s gentlemen. The club’s management committee had recently agreed to recommend for approval at the next AGM, that he be made a Life Member of Beckingham Bowls Club for his outstanding contribution. Nev will be sadly missed by his family and many friends in Beckingham and Saundby.
