There’s plenty happening at Retford Library in August and September. You’ll find details of activities for children in the Retford Life Summer Days Out Feature and don’t forget the Summer Reading Challenge to keep children reading over the summer with rewards and stickers along the way. Crime Café — An afternoon of cinema
Thursday 24th August, 2.00pm to 3.30pm
Join the Crime Café for a film afternoon. Tickets cost 50p to include refreshments and popcorn. Booking is advisable.
Dementia Friends Information Session
Thursday 14th September, 10.30am to 11.30am
This is a free session but booking is essential. Details to be confirmed.
National Poetry Day

Home Library Service
Retford Library has a team of RVS (Royal Voluntary Service) volunteers who deliver a selection of library books to those who are housebound and cannot access the library. If you know someone who would benefit from this service, please let a member of the library staff know.
Writers’ Group
The Writers’ Group will meet on Thursday 3rd, 17th, and 31st August and Thursday 14th and 28th September from 2.00pm to 4.00pm. Come along, listen and share. For further information, you can contact Kevin on 07903 654499 and kpm2@talktalk.net.
Craft and Coffee Club
The Craft and Coffee Club does not meet in August but will be back on Wednesday 6th and 20th September from 1.30pm to 3.00pm. Bring along your project, swap ideas, patterns and materials over a coffee. The cost is 50p for refreshments.
Family History Group
The self-supporting Family History Group does not meet in August but will be back on 11th and 25th September from 5.00pm to 7.00pm. Library facilities, including the local studies rooms and free computer access to the Ancestry website, are also available.
Local and Family History Drop-In Surgery
Need advice about family or local history? A local studies librarian will be on hand from 9.30am to 1.00pm on Thursday 24th August. This drop-in session is free and no booking is required.
Free IT Sessions
We can help with basic computer skills on PCs, laptops and tablets. Up to three free IT sessions are offered. We also can offer a session on Ancestry and the British Newspaper Archive.
Online resources
Inspire subscribe to many fascinating and useful online resources, all accessible for free from library PCs and some from home. These include Ancestry and the British Newspaper Archive.
Help with Homework
Young people can use PCs and the internet for free along with some free printing for homework purposes. There are many online resources available including free access to the Encyclopaedia Britannica, as well as helpful staff
Rattle, Rhyme and Roll
Every Wednesday and Friday from 10.00am to 10.20am, enjoy songs, rhymes and musical instruments for babies and toddlers. Have fun with your little ones and meet other parents.
