Share a poem on the National Poetry Day theme of Change or simply enjoy listening to others at the informal Poetry Café! Booking is advised. Tickets cost £1.00, to include refreshments.
Hardy’s Jude and Larkin’s Jill — A comparison by Rob White
Thursday 4th October, 7.00pm
Rob previously gave a well-received talk comparing Thomas Hardy’s Tess of the d’Urbervilles, with DH Lawrence’s The Virgin and the Gipsy as stories about two young women stepping out into the world. Now he looks at Jude the Obscure and Larkin’s early novel, Jill, as examples of two young men’s experiences of Oxford. Tickets cost £2.00, to include a glass of wine. Booking is essential.

- Wednesday 10th October, 2.00pm Sarah Ward — author of four crime novels: In Bitter Chill, A Deadly Thaw, A Patient Fury and The Shrouded Path set in the Derbyshire Peak District.
- Wednesday 24th October, 2.00pm — Jonathan Nicholas — author of Hospital Beat. Jonathan will talk about his books as well as his 30 years as a serving police officer in Nottingham.
Tickets cost £1.00, to include refreshments and booking is advised.

The Big Draw 2018: Play! Family Arts Workshop

What would happen if the circus visited the library? Come along and join in this year’s Big Draw fun whatever your age, no drawing ability required! With a sense of playfulness and the magical, this creative, hands-on family workshop will be inspired by the question: what would happen if the circus visited the library? Create expressive and joyous figures, artworks and armatures and experiment with lights and shadow play to bring your creations to life. this event is suitable for children aged five and over and their families.
