Villages preparing for the annual invasion

by | 7 June 2019 | Community Event

The villages of Ranskill and Torworth are once again preparing for the annual invasion of scarecrows. The event takes place over the weekend of 8th June in Ranskill and 9th June in Torworth, with around 100 scarecrows expected to be on display around the two villages. There is a full programme of events planned and entry is free on both days.
The scarecrows will, of course, be on display in both villages all weekend. You can all join in with the fun even if you don’t live in the villages. Festival organisers will organise for anyone making a scarecrow for it to be on display at a suitable place. As well as scarecrows, there is a full weekend of events taking place.

RANSKILL — SATURDAY 8TH JUNE
Organisers have arranged a free bouncy castle, face painting, go karts and sports for the children. Be entertained by Ranskill School Choir, Harworth Brass Band and the Ukulele Band. They have a range of hot and cold refreshments including a barbecue and afternoon tea, tombola, craft stalls, decorate your bike competition, owls, Zumba dancing and a martial arts demonstration. There will also be a local puppet theatre and magic show, pony rides, a flower and plant stall and village organisation stalls.

TORWORTH — SUNDAY 9TH JUNE
There will be many free activities for the children, including a bouncy castle, face painting and sports. There will be pony rides, have your photo taken with an owl, see a nature safari and try the climbing wall. Learn how to save a life with the paramedics, indulge in strawberry cream teas and watch the fun dog show. Why not enter your dog into the fun dog show or get free dog behavioural advice? There will also be displays by the Bawtry Youth Theatre Group and Retford Gymnastics Display Team. You could even have a go at line dancing. Meet Friends of Daneshill Lakes with their garden tool sharpening service, plus a wide range of craft stalls. There will be a Grand Raffle with excellent prizes to be drawn in Torworth on Sunday.

SUNDAY ONLY
Don’t miss the opportunity to ride on a ‘Red London Bus’, to see the scarecrows (courtesy of Wilfreda Coaches).
