Sadly, it has been decided not to hold a Christmas Tree Festival at St Swithun’s this year. It had been hoped that it would be possible to at least have a very much scaled down event and a decision was delayed for as long as possible. However, the Church Council took the view recently that the COVID-19 situation was not significantly improving and that the problems, risks and continuing uncertainty were all too great.
This is obviously a huge disappointment as the festival is now firmly established as a popular Retford tradition, in addition to it being a major source of income for the church. Let’s hope and pray that 2021 will see better days with the worst of the virus behind us and a festival even bigger and better than before!
