Organisers of East Markham’s annual Apple Day – which usually happens on the first Sunday of October each year – have decided that it won’t be possible to hold the full open day this year. Because COVID infection rates are still high and a crowded village hall, small bar, busy Jubilee Room, etc, make a nonsense of any attempt to maintain social distancing or any sense of security, the traditional village hall stalls of Apple Day along with entertainment, tasting benches, lunch and recipe book will not be available this year.
However, the Hempsall Heritage Orchard – a key feature of Apple Day – will be open for Pick Your Own over two weekends in October this year: Saturday and Sunday 2nd and 3rd October and Saturday and Sunday 9th and 10th October – from 10.00am to 4.00pm each day. As always, there will be 300 varieties to choose from! The SatNav postcode for the Heritage Orchard is NG22 0SS and ample free street parking is available. Everyone is very welcome.
Organisers have every intention of re-introducing the full scope of Apple Day once it is safe to do so and with this in mind, and for those that like to plan things well in advance, a re-vitalised Apple Day 2022 is planned to be on Sunday 2nd October 2022!
