Bassetlaw Twinning Association

Bassetlaw Twinning Association (BTA) is a self-funding organisation that arranges links with our twin towns. Primarily, Bassetlaw links with Garbsen and Pfungstadt in Germany and Aurillac in France. We additionally have links with Farmers Branch in Texas USA.

The group is not political, in fact they are proud that there are people from all political backgrounds, including differing views of the Brexit debate. They do, however, have a united common view — that we need to continue to promote friendships with our European and USA friends.

In May 2019, the association welcomed a large group from Pfungstadt, when friends old and new attended the event. Day trips included the Yorkshire Mining Museum and the Major Oak, the King William at Oldcotes did a marvellous job of serving people for an evening meal. Bassetlaw members also enjoyed providing hospitality in their own homes to the guests. Many members have just returned from the reciprocal visit, where they joined the Pfunstadt community in their Kerb celebration — an annual carnival held every September. Everyone was treated very well, enjoying great hospitality in German family homes, as well as various trips which included a boat trip on the Rhine and guided tours of Frankfhurt Airport and Pfungstadt town.

In 2020, BTA are hopeful that some American guests may visit due to the Mayflower celebrations, and they also have a planned visit from the French twin town Aurillac, this group is made up primarily of families, and is likely to take place early in the school summer holidays 2020.

The next fundraising event is on Friday 29th November, in Worksop Town Hall and is a Christmas Music Spectacular, featuring Sheffield Folk Chorale, supported by Peter Ken and Jeff from the Beehive Folk Club. Tickets are just 10.00, including refreshments, and can be obtained from Eric Lane on 01909 730652, or Sue Dawson on 01909 486821. New members are always welcome.
