Bassetlaw Twinning Association is an active organisation which promotes exchanges between the twin towns of Bassetlaw and towns in Europe and the USA. Our twin towns are Garbsen and Pfungstadt in Germany, Aurillac in France and Farmers Branch in USA.
They are a self-funding group and raise funds to go towards the cost of entertaining our visitors when they visit Retford and Worksop. In August approximately 16 association members from across Bassetlaw will be going to Aurillac to stay with families, where they will enjoy their hospitality and planned visits in their local area. In June the association will welcome a group of approximately 18 visitors from Garbsen, some of whom have become friends due to previous visits.
Over the years participants have had great fun on the exchanges and met some really interesting people as well as visiting interesting places with European friends. New members are always welcome, you do not have to be able to host or to travel, you would still be able to join in activities, making new friends along the way. However, hosting is a great way to get to know people, guests usually stay for five nights and activities are put on for hosts and guests during that time. Further details are available from Sue Dawson on 01909 486821.
The group raises funds by putting on activities that are enjoyable for all but at the same time raise the vital money they need. Their next event is a Strawberry Tea in Clarborough Village Hall on Sunday 8th July from 2.00pm to 5.00pm which includes entertainment by the Whitwell Brass Band. Tickets are only £7.00 and available from John Sutton on 01777 709034 or Sue Dawson on 01909 486821. Come and enjoy a summer’s afternoon with good music and good food, and hopefully good weather!
