If you have an interest in the arts and would like to learn more, please go along to one of The Arts Society Dukeries’ monthly meetings on the first Wednesday of the month, except for summer and winter breaks, from 11.00am to 12.00pm. The lectures are held at the Civic Centre, Carlton in Lindrick. The group also has two extra special interest days. You can also partake in their trips out to places of interest and a holiday for members.
The next meeting takes place on Wednesday 3rd July and is entitled ‘Women in the Mauritshuis’. The Mauritshuis Art Museum, at The Hague Gallery, Netherlands, is home to the very best of Dutch golden age painting. This compact, world renowned collection includes Vermeer’s ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’, plus several paintings by Rembrandt and other famous Dutch painters. Using some of the masterpieces in the exhibition, the lecture will explore not only the roles played by women but also introduce you to some of the artists and the kind of works they produced and the styles they used.
Coffee is served from 10.00am and the monthly lecture is from 11.00am to 12.00pm and there is free car parking.
