The Retford Patchwork and Quilting Group has come up with an exciting and innovative plan for 2026. Their selected theme, UP-Cycle, invites members to turn unused fabrics—like old clothing, household linens, or leftover material from past projects—into fresh, useful creations. At a time when so much is thrown away, this project focuses on cutting down waste and supporting environmental sustainability.
Everyone is welcome to participate and share their own ideas with the group. They meet on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month from 6.30pm to 9.00pm at The Grove Retford. Alternatively, they hold a drop-in session on the third Friday of the month from 10.00am to 2.00pm, hosted at Amy’s home.
Everyone is welcome, regardless of experience levels. Young Quilters (under 18) are also invited free of charge if accompanied by a paying adult. Block on the Month took on a festive vibe recently, with the group producing a star block for The Grove Methodist Church Star and Nativity Festival and an array of decorations for St Swithun’s Christmas Tree Festival. Julie and Amy provided full instructions to create an applique star block, a padded Star of David, an open quilted stocking, plus an Angel, Tree, Star and Bell just perfect to hang on a tree.
In 2026, the Block of the Month will continue with ‘Foundation Paper Piecing’ followed by a group project called ‘Sew a Row’. All projects are optional and members who prefer to work on their own designs are more than welcome. The group is also planning a range of outings including to Barnyarns in Ripon and Spalding Craft Village.
