A bus trip is a new venture for Retford Art Society, with arrangements made to visit the Staithes Art Festival – always a popular destination – on Saturday 13th September. Places can be booked through the Society’s website or via any committee member, after which further details regarding pick-up, payment and other arrangements will be provided. The cost is £20.00 for members and £25.00 for non-members.

This month also features a workshop on Saturday 27th September with professional Shropshire-based artist Mark Warner, whose subject will be painting a modern landscape in acrylics. Mark is renowned for his wonderfully atmospheric landscapes. Booking can be made via the website or by contacting Jill on 01777 248285. The cost is £25.00 for members and £30.00 for non-members. The workshop will be held in St Saviour’s Community Hall from 10.00am to 3.00pm.

The Society’s plein air groups remain active in the local area, taking advantage of the warm weather and looking forward to capturing the autumn colours. Those interested in joining can get in touch via the website – the group paints in a variety of locations.

Life drawing sessions in the Swan Studio resume this month, taking place from 7.00pm to 9.00pm on Wednesdays 10th and 24th September. The cost is £7.00 for members and students, and £10.00 for non-members.

From Monday 1st September to Wednesday 8th November, the Society will exhibit in Bassetlaw Museum with Swan Studio Art. Entry is free and the exhibition offers a great variety of work. The autumn exhibition will open on Tuesday 28th October and run concurrently with the museum display for a short time, although the paintings will be different.

The Swan Studio is open every Tuesday evening from 7.00pm to 9.00pm and Friday afternoon from 2.00pm to 4.00pm. These informal sessions are proving increasingly popular with beginners. There is no charge, and non-members are assured a warm welcome and encouragement. The Swan Studio is located at the bottom of Carolgate, underneath the arch and above the bike shop.
