It’s been quite a rise to success for Retford Football Club since their formation in 2015. Promotion was secured to the Northern Counties East League last season after only one defeat in a hard fought campaign, with success on the field being followed by success off it with the Rail ground on Babworth Road changing shape with floodlights, stands and an excellent pitch bringing it to the standards required for the step up the leagues.
The club held their presentation night on Friday 7th June to celebrate the success of last season. Adam Scott collected the top goal scorer award for his haul of 28 goals, defender Graeme Severn with the Supporter’s Player award, Gaz Davies picked up the Manager’s award and Oli Bilham got the vote of his players.
The final two awards went to Young Player of the Season, Haydn Goddard, and Paul Middleton received the Captain’s Trophy.
The dawn of a new era now begins this pre-season with players already committed to the club from last year. Manager Chris Woodhead will be putting them through their paces looking to continue to produce home grown talent from the development sides and scouting for local talent, something which is in the DNA of the club, giving the junior sides something to aspire to in the future, looking to make the step up into the senior side.
Another coup over the summer for the club was the formation of a new ladies side who will play at the Rail ground as they look to establish themselves in their respective league.
