Flossie Malavielle and Keith Donnelly — Dark Horses — will appear at Headon Village Hall on Saturday 13th April at 7.30pm. Flossie Malavialle is a French-born singer who has been based in the North East of England since 2002, having experienced teaching French in Stockton-on-Tees and singing at Darlington Folk Club and deciding that life in England and a singing career was her future.
She met Keith Donnelly in 2001 at the Spring Thing Festival in Darlington where they became firm friends. She liked his songs, he liked her style and decided to team up and do festivals together, Keith being inspired to name their duo Dark Horses.
She sings and plays a wide variety of songs in French, English and Spanish, interspersed with a touch of humorous Geordie-French banter which gives her performance a certain “je ne sais quoi”. From well-established folk songs to jazz standards, from blues to Edith Piaf and Jacques Brel’s classics — her wide repertoire appeals to all
Keith Donnelly started playing guitar in his teens on a “beaten up old monster that my Dad had traded with a Norwegian sailor”. Whilst studying psychology and education at Warwick he met, and played with, Marty Oram for a couple of years and so began his musical career. Over the following 20 years he worked on various projects such as writing for TV companies, after-dinner speaking and scriptwriting. He is a fine stand-up singer and comedian with a great sense of humour appealing to all ages.
