Following their recent Annual general Meeting, the new committee of Retford U3A are delighted to let the readers of Retford Life know, how successful the group has become, and how Retford Life has helped in promoting so many wonderful interests that ‘people of a certain age’ can enjoy.

Retford U3A has been running now for eight years. There are around 650 members and 50 interest groups. There is a group meeting, held once a month, at the Well Baptist Church, Retford, on the fourth Thursday of the month.

We will not be having a meeting in August, but our Autumn Programme is well advanced, so look out for future news.
Two of the most popular interest groups cover Gardening and Walking. During the autumn, through to the spring, the Gardening Group meet on the third Thursday of the month at the Well Baptist Church in Retford from 2.00pm until 4.00pm. In the winter months times are slightly different. They have a range of professional speakers, offering advice on how we can improve our gardens. During the summer months trips to famous gardens are arranged.

The Walking Group is divided into three sections; Moderate, Striders and Strollers. They meet on different days, and between them, like the gardening group have over 100 members. The Moderate group aim to walk five to six miles, the Striders around eight miles and the Strollers a little less. Information and contact details are on the Retford U3A website.

The ethos of the U3A, which stands for The University of the Third Age, is that we keep ourselves active in body and mind, learning from each other, with shared experiences.
