Sutton Art Group is celebrating 20 years of art in the village and their Annual Exhibition on Saturday 25th November is to be a special one.

Joan Reiter started the group with funding from an art grant which was obtained by Chris Jones, then chair of the Parish Council. Very soon, however, the group of 12 was self-funding and now there is a group of around 24 which meets on Friday mornings in the village hall. The first tutor, Ruth Whitam, provided excellent tuition for many years and the group has gone from strength to strength and engaged a number of tutors over the years, with Elaine Nash now providing inspiration and new ideas.

The celebration will focus on the Annual Exhibition on 25th November when there will be an ‘art amnesty’, with original pieces of art work produced through the years available free of charge — there will be the opportunity for those taking up this offer to make a donation to Bassetlaw Hospice.

There will, of course, also be the traditional exhibition with framed and mounted works available for purchase. So please come along on 25th November to Sutton Village Hall between 11.00am and 3.30pm and take this unique opportunity to view a wonderful display and possibly go home with a piece of original art work.

The Village Hall is on Town Street, DN22 8PT and parking is free. Tea, biscuits and a raffle are available. The Gate Inn is only 100 yards away and serves food from 12.00pm.
