The summer months have seen some interesting and very welcome visitors to the Wednesday Group in Retford. The first was Lauren Medlam of the Carers’ Hub. Lauren came to offer free, individual advice sessions; carers were quick to take advantage. They said Lauren was very understanding, gave really helpful information on benefits and put them in contact with other helpful agencies. Lauren will visit again in August.
The next visitor was Brabham, a trained PAT (Pets as Therapy) dog, who came with his handler, Janet Peto. Brabham is a saluki, standard poodle cross which makes him large, creamy and very cuddly. He is used to visiting hospital patients but had no trouble adapting his bedside manner to a room full of people in chairs and he wasted no time endearing himself to everyone. Janet spoke briefly about his training and experience and promised to bring him back soon.
We were very pleased to welcome the president of Retford Rotary, David Towers and his wife Pauline to one of our regular sessions. They joined in activities, spoke to members and presented us with a cheque for £150 to spend on resources. Retford Rotary have supported the Wednesday Group since it started in 2014.
Finally, Jack Palmer, a talented, young guitarist, spent an afternoon with us and delighted members with a varied programme of music, ranging from Chuck Berry’s Johnny be Good to Hanumun by Rodrigo y Gabriella. He chatted to members, answering their questions and sharing interesting information about guitar techniques and the music he likes. We hope he will find time to visit us again soon.
