Physiotherapist Joanne Pritchard, ably assisted by her colleague Pat, came to the Bassetlaw Cardiac Support Group meeting on Friday 5th May, at Retford Hospital. She invited members to share their own theories regarding the importance of exercise, particularly now that the first flush of youth has passed. She encouraged everyone to exercise at least 180 minutes per week — this can include walking, swimming, cycling, bowling and not ignoring housework, gardening, DIY, etc. Sometimes cost, time and distance may be a barrier for many to join group activities but often such groups are to be found on our own doorstep. Ladies, in particular, often find that walking alone is worrying and Jo suggested that carrying a mobile phone is a must. There is available a Panic Guard app which could, certainly, give lone walkers re-assurance, and people who live alone, confidence. This was a pleasant, informative and interactive meeting.
The group’s next meeting is at The Crossing, Worksop, at 2.00pm on Friday 2nd June, when members welcome the return of Mike Davey talking about ‘Plants of the Desert’. The group is not a medical group, but you are promised a warm welcome and support. New members are always welcome. For more details call Pat Broskom on 01909 562361.
