July 2026 saw another very successful Bassetlaw Multicultural Festival held on Priory Fields in Worksop. Bouncy castles and activity stalls were visible from the road and helped to draw families into the festival. There were lots of free activities celebrating the various cultures represented across Bassetlaw. These included foods from our Turkish community, street food from Hong Kong, an Indian food stall as well as traditional English fare.
There was also an opportunity to have a go at crafts related to different cultures, as well as the opportunity to engage with various health stands and self help groups. Entertainment was provided by local schools, a Ukranian singing and dancing group and the u3a Caribbean-style steel drum band. The festival was closed by local band the Flying Rats – a very popular choice.
The Bassetlaw Multicultural Association works in partnership with Bassetlaw District Council to support those in our community who have settled here from other parts of the world. Volunteers work to help on either on a short- or long-term basis to help many access English lessons as well as offer general support.
For various reason, some of their trustees and supporters have moved on and they really need some new people to join them to ensure the festival goes ahead next year. They urgently need a publicity manager, bookings organisers, a website manager and a funding manager. If you have skills these areas or just want to find out more, they would be very keen to hear from you. Please contact them via WBCA2023@gmail.com.
