Vanessa Stone’s exhibition ‘Open Fields and Interior Worlds’ is open at Cath Ray Gallery and Studios from Saturday 10th January to Saturday 28th February.
The new year begins with a vibrant splash of colour at the gallery in Retford. Vanessa Stone’s many-layered, hand-cut collages invite visitors to step quietly into big skies and wide, open fields – landscapes inspired by the Nottinghamshire countryside surrounding her studio near Newark. These expansive views sit alongside intimate interior studies and still life drawings, delicately crafted on reclaimed Amazon packaging, revealing the quiet beauty of the everyday. The works present a world both familiar and reimagined, encouraging close observation and a sense of calm connection to the natural environment.
Alongside the exhibition, the gallery hosts a range of classes, workshops and drop-in sessions, including embroidery, stained glass, mosaics, drawing and painting. During the time it is open, there will be an eight-week drawing course aimed at beginners and artists wishing to extend their skills and broaden their use of materials. The course runs on Mondays from 1.00pm to 3.00pm, Thursday evenings from 7.00pm to 9.00pm, and Saturday afternoons from 3.00pm to 5.00pm. Contact Cath on 07803 204424 for details of all classes, or call into the gallery for a chat.
Open Monday to Saturday, 10.00am to 5.00pm (closing at 2.00pm on Tuesdays), the gallery is located at 58b Bridgegate, Retford DN22 7UZ. For more information, email raybooks@msn.com or find the gallery on Facebook and Instagram.
