It has been a busy and successful year for Retford Art Society, with a full programme of workshops and demonstrations that have proved very popular among members.

The Society extends its thanks to the Methodist Chapel for its friendship and support, having hosted two exhibitions in their beautiful venue this year. Visitors were invited to call in and vote for their favourite picture, while across the road at the Museum, a third exhibition showcased even more of the Society’s work.

A new highlight for 2025 was the introduction of art-based bus trips, the first of which took members to Staithes. Plans are already underway for more outings next year, and suggestions for future destinations are welcome. The outdoor painting group continues to flourish, providing members with mutual support, companionship and the chance to discover inspiring local landscapes. Meanwhile, the Swan Studio remains open during the week for open studio sessions, offering a friendly, creative space for all – newcomers included – to paint together.

Life drawing sessions have also thrived, with two meetings each month supported by excellent models whose professionalism is greatly appreciated. The committee deserves special thanks for their dedication and teamwork throughout the year – often enlisting family members to lend a hand – ensuring that everything runs smoothly and with good humour. Looking ahead, the Society’s volunteers will continue helping with children’s art classes at The Hub. After a well-earned winter break, activities will resume in February, when details of the new programme will be announced.

Happy winter festivities to everyone from Retford Art Society!
