At the meeting of Retford and District Historical and Archaeological Society on Wednesday 12th November at 7.30pm, the subject will be ’Candlewax, Chickens and Cheese’. People have always been fascinated by the idea of knowing their future and have used many different methods to try and predict it. In earlier times, these methods often involved everyday items to hand, helping people to interpret signs and decide their fate.
Today, familiar forms such as runes and tarot cards are more commonly known, but many older techniques have fallen out of favour and are almost forgotten. At the November meeting, Elaine Perkins will demonstrate some of these more unusual forms of divination, both ancient and modern. Everyone is welcome at Grove Street Methodist Church. Admission for non-members is £3.00.
