Time Flies Activities has been bringing people together in Retford for eight years for conversation, companionship and social activities, and the focus is very much on fun and laughter. Known by many as The Time Machine (named after their previous home at the Old Schoolhouse on Churchgate) the group welcomes adults of all ages at their Monday sessions at St Joseph’s Church Hall, Babworth Road in Retford.
Crafts, board games, singing, music, quizzes and gentle / seated exercise are popular favourites, and the large hall means that the more energetic can play badminton while others are painting or playing dominoes. A tasty two-course lunch is served each week, and the kettle’s always on. Time Flies Activities was set up to tackle loneliness and social isolation, promote positive mental and physical health, and improve people’s quality of life. They are a not-for-profit group run by volunteers, are dementia friendly and additional needs friendly, and welcome carers too. The charge for a session is £10.00, and accompanying carers pay just £5.00. Additional volunteers are also welcome – they’re currently looking for an additional activities coordinator to help plan and organise even more fun things for the group to do.
