Retford Art Society’s bus trip to Staithes Art Festival last month was much enjoyed by all, and more trips are planned for next year. This month there will be a demonstration in the Swan Studio by the talented artist Gary Ashton on Thursday 30th October. His subject will be painting an abstract landscape. The session runs from 7.00pm to 9.00pm and the cost is £7.00 for members and £10.00 for non-members.
The plein air groups are out and about in the local area. With the weather still surprisingly warm, members are looking forward to the autumn colours. Anyone interested in joining them can get in touch via the website, as they paint in a variety of locations. Life drawing sessions will also start up again in the Swan Studio. These take place from 7.00pm to 9.00pm on Wednesdays 8th and 22nd October. The cost is £7.00 for members and students, and £10.00 for non-members.
The Society has been exhibiting in the Bassetlaw Museum since the beginning of September. The exhibition, entitled Swan Studio Art, offers free entry and runs until 8th November. Visitors can enjoy a great variety of work produced by members. The Society’s autumn exhibition will open on 28th October and will run concurrently with the museum exhibition for a short while. The paintings will be different, however.
The Swan Studio is open every Tuesday evening from 7.00pm to 9.00pm and on Friday afternoons from 2.00pm to 4.00pm. These sessions are becoming increasingly popular with beginners. There is no charge, and non-members can expect a warm welcome and plenty of encouragement. The Swan Studio is located at the bottom of Carolgate, underneath the arch and over the bike shop.
