East Markham WI

by | 14 October 2025 | Group meeting, Local Charity, Retford, WI

The August meeting of East Markham WI was a social and crafty evening, with members working on the Poppy Project for Remembrance in November. Poppies were made, finished, or attached to camouflage netting while members enjoyed chat, fellowship, and delicious homemade cakes, tea, and coffee. Around 600 poppies were added during the evening, creating a wonderful display. More poppies will be added over the coming weeks – red, purple (for animals), and white (for peace) – before the completed display is erected at the War Memorial at the end of October.
The committee wishes to thank everyone, members and non-members, who have knitted and crocheted poppies for this project.

On Tuesday 16th September, the group welcomed Nottinghamshire Women’s Aid to talk about the work they do in supporting vulnerable women and children in the county. On Tuesday 21st October, there will be a wine tasting evening with Waitrose. This is likely to be popular, but numbers are limited, and members will require a ticket. Any spare tickets will be available to visitors at £10.00 each.

The Tuesday 18th November meeting will feature a chocolate demonstration from Cathy’s Chocolate and Cakes. The visitor fee is £6.00, with reduced rates available for anyone joining part-way through the year. Meetings are held at 7.15pm in the Village Hall.
