Aurora is a local cancer charity based in the Old Library Building in Worksop, offering support to people in Bassetlaw living with cancer or a long-term health condition. They provide a welcoming, safe space for anyone looking for companionship, a sense of community, or the opportunity to try something new.
Spotlight on… Cancer Care Map
Aurora recently had the exciting opportunity to work with Cancer Care Map, a national initiative that connects people with cancer support services across the UK. Their team visited the centre to learn more about what Aurora offer and to capture some of it on film as part of their upcoming website update. With nearly 6,000 verified services listed on www.cancercaremap.org, the site provides vital, up-to-date information for anyone affected by cancer. A big thank you to Emma Cotton and Ben Clayton for visiting Aurora and doing the filming.
Spooky happenings
There’s lots of spooky events for you to enjoy in the centre for Halloween whether you are a grown-up or a child.
Pumpkin Carving for Kids – Thursday 30th October, 10.00am to 12.00pm
Get messy carving pumpkins at Aurora. This one-off session offers a fun half term activity with age-appropriate scary stories. £4.00 per child (parental/guardian support required).
Creepy Crafts – Thursday 30th October, 1.00pm to 3.00pm
A one-off spooky craft session sprinkled with Worksop ghost stories and a Halloween themed quiz. £5.00 per person including refreshments and sweet treats. Suitable for 16+ age groups.

Halloween Tales Pie and Pea Supper Night – Thursday 30th October, 6.30pm to 9.00pm
The Woolly Tellers will share some ghostly stories and traditional tales associated with Halloween. There will be a pie and pea supper with a hot drink included. Jukebox Session – last Friday of the month
Enjoy a guided album listening session where music becomes a space for relaxation, nostalgia and an opportunity to share the music we love. October will be Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells.
Creative Writing course starting Tuesday 7th October, 10.00am to 12.00pm
Discover the power of words in a six-week creative writing course. Suitable for beginners and beyond. £3.00 per session or £15.00 for the full course. Pre-booking is essential.
Games Mornings – first Wednesday of the month, 9.30am to 11.00am
Wake up your brain with a midweek games club held in Valerie’s Tearooms. You will play classic games whilst enjoying a cup of tea and conversation. £1.00 per person which includes a drink. October will be all things dominoes and November will be card games.

Grab a bargain at Aurora’s first jumble sale. Valerie’s Tearooms will be open and the beauty therapist will be there too. Beauty treatments must be pre-booked.
Pet Shop Boys Tribute Fundraiser – Saturday 18th October, 7.00pm to 11.00pm
Join the Aurora team at Shireoaks Sports and Social Club for a fun-filled fundraising evening. Tickets are £10.00 and are available from Shireoaks Sports and Social Club or Aurora reception.
Fish and Chip Supper Night – Friday 7th November, 6.30pm to 9.30pm
By popular demand, Island Truffles back to entertain. There will be a supper of home cooked fish, chips and peas and a hot drink, followed by a Belgian chocolate demonstration with witty dialogue, singing and comedy routines by host Andy Grey. Christmas Market – Saturday 6th December, 10.00am to 2.00pm
Lots of festive fun and local craft stalls selling unique gifts for Christmas. There will be children’s activities and Santa’s Grotto plus Valerie’s Tearooms and Charity Shop will be open.
Welbeck Celebration of Christmas – Wednesday 10th December, 7.00pm
Enjoy some Aurora magic at Welbeck Chapel. There will be mulled wine, tea or coffee on arrival and a mince pie or sweet treat, browse the Aurora stalls in Titchfield Library before The Aurora Wellbeing Singers and a guest singer perform some of your favourite Christmas songs. Tickets are £15.00 and will go on sale in November.
