Retford u3a offers inspiration, new skills, and a vibrant community, tailored especially for those no longer in full-time work. There is no age limit, and you can explore new activities or simply enjoy good company – the choice is yours.

To give a flavour of what is on offer, here are just a few highlights from recent months. The Gardening Group has a varied diary with excursions from April to September, changing to monthly meetings from October to March. The last visit was to Wentworth Woodhouse, which hosted the RHS Flower Show – a feast for the senses, showcasing innovative design and horticultural excellence. It was virtually impossible to choose a single favourite, although the keen gardeners tried.

The Walking Groups explored further afield with a trip to Stamford, offering walks to suit all abilities. There was also the opportunity to discover local history or browse the many shops and cafés

.
The Flower Group’s July challenge was to create an arrangement depicting a country. A mix of flowers, foliage, and themed accessories produced imaginative designs, some of which were displayed at the Grove Street Church Flower Festival.

The General Meeting at The Well, Retford, is an opportunity to meet committee members, group leaders, and members. Meetings also feature a guest speaker; Andy Massey recently gave a talk about his artwork and the murals he has created in and around Retford. One mural, on Spa Lane, depicts the sheep fairs held on nearby Spa Common from the 19th century until 1980 – with an intentional error for visitors to find.

New interest groups are always a possibility, and members guide each other through discussion groups, practical workshops, and social activities. No qualifications are required – just enthusiasm.

Make the most of your spare time and join Retford u3a. Every day is a chance to discover something different, meet someone new, and make memories. The door is always open.
