Retford Charter Day will be back on 4th May 2026! The annual celebration of Retford receiving a royal charter, Retford Charter Day is Retford’s biggest market and festival event. It raises tens of thousands of pounds for local causes, supports our independent businesses, and brings our community together. But the organisers need help: their committee is made up exclusively of volunteers who work tirelessly to preserve our heritage and to help Retford thrive, and they’re looking for Retford residents who want to join us in their mission.
Want to help? They have a wide range of roles so anyone can get involved – from giving up a few hours to a few months, from administration to hands-on, there are so many ways for you to be part of Charter Day. Committee roles include entertainment bookers, stallholder liaison, treasurer, marketing leads, social media creators, community engagement, fundraising, accessibility leads, and health and safety coordinators. They’re also looking for volunteers to help steward the event, compère live stage performances, set up venues, deliver notices to local businesses, and much more!
They are incredibly grateful for all the help they get so want their volunteers to feel like they’re getting something out of it as well. Maybe it’s meeting new people, learning new skills, or even acquiring qualifications.
