As summer fades into autumn, Clays Gardening Club looks forward to a full and varied programme of events during the colder months. Following a summer season of outdoor visits and garden tours, members will return to South Wheatley Village Hall (DN22 9DH) for their regular monthly meetings.
The autumn season begins on Monday 15th September with a visit from the ever-popular Doug Stewart, who will present a talk on edible flowers. Doug will share how a surprising range of blooms can be grown for use in the kitchen – from colourful petals to brighten summer salads, to fragrant additions for jams and jellies, and unique flavours to impress dinner party guests.
On Monday 20th October, the club will hold its Annual General Meeting, followed by a relaxed social evening. Members can look forward to a light-hearted gardening-themed quiz – the perfect chance to test horticultural knowledge while enjoying drinks and nibbles.
Monday 17th November brings something special, with Martin and Jill Fish presenting Gardening on the Menu – The Winter Table. This event combines practical gardening advice for fruit and vegetable growing with ideas of how home-grown produce can be transformed into delicious dishes. It promises to be both inspiring and mouth-watering, with sample food to try and recipe sheets to take away.
December will be filled with festive spirit. On Monday 1st December, the club’s Christmas wreath-making evening returns, offering members and visitors the chance to craft seasonal decorations while enjoying mince pies and a tipple. The year will end on Monday 15th December with the popular Christmas lunch.
With such a rich mix of talks, demonstrations and celebrations, there is something for everyone. Visitors are always welcome – doors open at 7.00pm. Entry is £3.00 for members, £5.00 for non-members (wreath-making evening priced separately). For details, contact Christine on 07572 262172.
