June marked the end of the current Leonine year, when a President-elect takes over the operations of the club. The formal handover for Retford Lions Club took place at the West Retford Hotel during a luncheon, where outgoing President Maureen Lilly handed over the role to Bob Crampton. Bob, a long-standing member with previous experience at Edwinstowe Lions, now steps into the leadership role.
Arrangements are now finalised for this year’s Last Night of the Proms concert, which will take place on Saturday 20th September at The Well on Babworth Road. Once again, the award-winning Hatfield and Askern Colliery Brass Band will perform, joined by bass baritone Martin Lamb. The club hopes this year’s concert will be as well received as last year’s event at the Town Hall.
A warm day on Wednesday 9th July saw the annual Ted Waterfield Memorial Golf Tournament held at Retford Golf Club. Around 30 teams competed for a variety of prizes, with proceeds going to Bassetlaw Hospice. The Lions would like to thank all who took part, particularly the hole sponsors and local golf clubs who generously donated prizes.
