Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust – North Nottinghamshire Local Group

The North Nottinghamshire Local Group of Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust’s August meeting will take place at Treswell Wood, a beautiful nature reserve near Retford cared for by Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust. The reserve is open year-round and offers a particularly enchanting visit during spring and summer when wildflowers are in bloom.

Wood anemone, bluebell, and primrose are among the many species to be found here, all indicators of ancient woodland. In England and Wales, an ancient woodland is defined as one that has existed continuously since 1600. These habitats are usually rich in biodiversity and of great importance for conservation. Recognising such woodland isn’t always straightforward. Knowing the signs, understanding the flora, and being familiar with the site all help – and that’s where the walk’s special guide, Michael Walker, comes in. Michael is Nature Recovery Manager at Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust and has worked in various areas of the Trust. He has served as a butterfly recorder and has worked extensively with bats and dormice. His knowledge of Treswell Wood’s flora, insects, fungi, and birds promises a fascinating experience.

Attendees are welcome to bring sandwiches for a picnic afternoon tea at the end of the walk – weather permitting! For more information or to receive email updates about local group activities, phone Jan on 01777 709974 or 07969 180067.
