Retford Cricket Club (RCC) are extremely busy now that their 175th season is fully underway. Most weekend days see a senior match at the home ground. Visitors are always welcome to enjoy the action and the facilities. The Sunday matches are proving a real draw for some of the older junior players to start and grow experience of the senior game.
Talking of the juniors, they are also fully immersed in their age-group matches, taking place across the region on weekday evenings. A real sense of teamwork and passion for the game is clearly on display with friendships being built as new members join.
Friday evenings at Cricket Field Lane are a hive of excitement and energy as the youngsters are put through their paces by the volunteer coaching team. The club enjoys having a small number of ECB qualified coaches supported by other parents in a fully safeguarded environment. Most of the coaches also play in the senior teams, so have a deep understanding of the game and skills required.
RCC held its first juniors holiday training day during the May half term which saw over 20 children spending the day at the club in a concentrated period of skill development. There are plans for more in the summer holidays which will be advertised through Retford Life online and via other channels. The children don’t have to be RCC members to join in. They’ll get a wonderful opportunity to learn and develop skills. It’s a safe space to allow experimentation. You never know, your child or grandchild could be the next Joe Root or Sophie Ecclestone!
There is still lots of space for more new joiners to the club, from five years old and up. Why not pop down and see what’s available or look up the RCC socials for more information?
