Retford Art Society

There will be no demonstration or workshop this month at Retford Art Society, but instead a talk will be given by Christine Salter on the Victorian children’s book illustrator and artist, Kate Greenaway.

Kate’s distinctive book illustrations were hugely popular and influential during her time. She lived in the Nottinghamshire village of Rolleston, near Newark, and is therefore considered one of the county’s notable figures. The Kate Greenaway Society has reportedly created a trail in the village, though details have proven elusive – perhaps more will be revealed at the talk.

Looking ahead, a bus trip to Staithes has been arranged for Saturday 13th September. This is always a popular destination. To book a place on the coach, please visit the website or contact Jill. The cost is £20.00, with further details to follow closer to the date.

Life drawing sessions continue at the Swan Studio from 7.00pm to 9.00pm. This month’s sessions will be held on Wednesday 2nd and Wednesday 16th July. The cost is £7.00 for members and £10.00 for non-members.

The Swan Studio is also open every Tuesday evening from 7.00pm to 9.00pm and Friday afternoon from 2.00pm to 4.00pm. These sessions are proving especially popular with beginners. There is no charge, and non-members are warmly welcomed and encouraged to attend. The Swan Studio is located at the bottom of Carolgate, underneath the arch and above the bike shop.
