Retford Lions Club

With the ducks safely away for another year, Retford Lions are moving forward with their plans for the upcoming months.

Before that, they want to announce the Duck Race winners from Retford Charter Day in May. The corporate Red Duck Race, preceding the main Yellow Duck Race, produced Clinton Carpets as the winner. A presentation took place with the owners, Tony and Lee Brennan, donating a cheque for £1,000 to Sharon Grocock, District Organiser for the Alzheimer’s Society.

With Christmas in mind, Santa’s sleigh is undergoing further renovations and will be ready to do the rounds with the Lions throughout December.

Lions are supporting Retford’s youth group the MOB with their upcoming production: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Majestic from 10th to 12th July.

This is just one example of the groups that the Club supports in the town. They are also helping Retford FC girls’ teams with shirt sponsorship and funding has been agreed to help towards the purchase of safety equipment, which will be used by Ranskill Scouts for water-based activities. Retford Rugby Club received a donation from Retford Lions to help gain funding to install lighting on their practice pitches.
CPR training saves lives

Ever since Premier League footballer Fabrice Muamba collapsed with cardiac arrest during a match in 2012 and people became aware that any of us could be struck down suddenly, Retford Lions have been working hard to make CPR skills and defibrillators widely available locally. They have helped to fund the installation of eight defibrillators in public places, sports clubs and village halls.

Well over 1,000 people have benefited from courses they have run, where those attending have learnt how to do CPR and to access and use a defibrillator. These courses have been provided free of charge in village halls, sport clubs, schools and other venues.

Lions want as many people as possible to have these simple lifesaving skills. Any organisation which would like Lions to provide a training course for them should contact Bruce on 01777 704154.
