There’s a lot going on at North and South Wheatley Village Hall in June, powered by the new solar panels and battery system. Thanks are extended to those organisations who have supported this sustainability project.
The hall welcomes Bedda Pasta (formerly of the Italian café, Mamma G’s, in Retford) to Food and Drink Friday on Friday 6th June. Their stunning new silver trailer will be selling delicious fresh pasta dishes, tasty sides and tubs of tiramisu from 5.00pm to 8.00pm. The bar will be open. Everyone is invited to just turn up and enjoy good food, drink and company.
On Saturday 21st June, from 10.00am until 12.00pm, the hall will host its summer coffee morning. Entry is free and there is no need to book. Visitors are welcome to enjoy refreshments, craft and gift stalls, the raffle and friendly conversation. At the time of writing, a few stalls remain available for just £5.00. For further information or to book, contact Rose on 07817 730421.
In addition to the regular meetings of the Gardening Club, the Thursday Quiz and Local History Group, Line Dancing and T’ai Chi classes continue and Caterpillar Music classes have started on Wednesday mornings.
T’ai Chi classes celebrated their first anniversary in April. The activity takes place on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 2.00pm to 3.00pm, costing just £5.00 on a pay-as-you-go basis. The class is taught by Chris, who practises the Lee Style T’ai Chi Form. This consists of 140 slow, gentle and circular movements. Chris is passionate about T’ai Chi and provides a variety of activities in each session. The class sizes are small, ensuring personal attention and support.
The controlled movements of T’ai Chi can significantly improve balance and coordination, promote flexibility and range of motion, and support physical and mental health. Mindful movement and breathing techniques help reduce stress and promote relaxation, while enhancing focus and cognitive function. The practice has also been linked to strengthening the immune system and promoting overall wellbeing, although further research is required.
One beginner remarked that while it can be a challenging and sometimes frustrating activity, being ‘in the zone’ is totally absorbing.
The North and South Wheatley Village Hall is available for hire for functions such as children’s parties, receptions and meetings. It may be possible to run a bar for private events if desired – please check when making your booking. For hall hire enquiries, contact Kerry at booking.wheatleyvillagehall@gmail.com.
