Friends of Bassetlaw Museum

by | 5 June 2025 | Community Event, Community facility, Heritage, Retford

May was a busy month for many of the Friends of Bassetlaw Museum, who were involved in a range of events marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day. The Friends also ran their Curiosity Corner event in the middle of the month. As a result, June will be a relatively quieter time for them.

Nonetheless, they will be running a guided tour of the Museum at 2.00pm on Friday 6th June. This will be the fifth consecutive month of tours, which focus on the history of the building and its past residents. Led by Derek Taylor, the tours are held on the afternoon of the first Friday of each month, although there will be a break during the summer. Pre-booking is essential – email fobm.tours@gmail.com or contact the Museum directly. Tours are free, although a £5.00 donation is suggested.

Last month’s update confirmed the rumour that the Irontree Alpacas will be returning to the Museum Gardens. This has now been confirmed for Thursday 17th July. Plans are underway for another enjoyable afternoon, hopefully blessed with sunshine.

A reminder goes out to the few members who have yet to renew their subscriptions – please do so as soon as possible. Anyone uncertain about the process is encouraged to get in touch using the email address below.

Finally, please note the Museum is operating with temporary opening hours. It will be closed on Mondays and Thursdays for up to a year to allow for off-site work on the stored collections.

Anyone interested in learning more about the Friends or becoming a member can email fobm.membership@gmail.com. Membership forms are also available via their Facebook page or on the homepage of the Bassetlaw Museum website.
