At their meeting on Thursday 20th March at Hallcroft Community Centre, Grove WI members enjoyed an engaging presentation from Eddie and Lynn of the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance. They outlined the history and work of this helicopter emergency service, which covers the counties of Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire – a combined area of some 3,500 square miles.
First becoming operational in April 1993, this vital organisation has helped save countless lives by delivering emergency medical care to some of the most serious incidents in the region. Working closely with First Responders, the Ambulance Service, Police, Fire and Rescue, and the Coastguard, these ‘medics in the sky’ are effectively able to provide an A&E department at the scene of an accident.
Operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with a team of highly skilled doctors, paramedics and helicopter pilots, the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance is a registered charity and relies entirely on public donations to carry out its work. It receives no government funding.
The talk was well received by members of Grove WI.
Future meetings are planned, offering a variety of activities and guest speakers on a range of interesting topics.
Grove WI always welcomes visitors and new members. Anyone interested is encouraged to come along and see if they would like to join this friendly group of ladies. Meetings are held on the third Thursday afternoon of each month at Hallcroft Community Centre, starting at 2.00pm.
