On Wednesday 12th March, 23 members of Retford Mayflower WI and three visitors attended to listen to Chris Abbott give her talk entitled ‘The Lighter Side of Veterinary Nursing’, which proved to be both interesting and humorous. She was accompanied by her friend Angela and a Labrador named Maggie, who received quite a bit of attention.
One of the practice vets, Bruce, was an exotic vet, and one day a tortoise was brought into the surgery after an accident with a lawnmower, causing part of its shell to come off. It was glued back, and the tortoise continued with its long life. The surgery was near Blackpool Zoo, and on one occasion, they had to give a marmoset a caesarean.
On Sunday 23rd March, there was a litter pick, and the slight dampness did not deter members. Afterward, some of them went to Wetherspoons for a late breakfast.
The April monthly speaker was Terry Mellors, who gave a talk on ‘The Power of Breath’. It was also the annual subs night for those who do not use bank transfers.
The meeting on Wednesday 14th May is entitled ‘’L’ on Wheels’ with Stephen Brown, and visitors are always welcome to attend at Stephen House on Chapelgate for a 7.30pm start to see if the WI appeals. Your first visit is free!
