As promised, the Lunchtime Organ Recitals are returning to St Swithun’s Church in Retford throughout the summer, taking place on the third Thursday of each month from April to October at 1.00pm.
The series will feature world-famous organists, including Colin Walsh, Paul Hale, Jeffrey Makinson, and John Keys. The series will begin on Thursday 24th April with David Butterworth – this is the only recital that falls outside the usual pattern, as the third Thursday of April is Maundy Thursday.
Each recital lasts approximately one hour and is preceded by light refreshments served from 12.15pm. Admission is free, but generous donations are encouraged, all of which go towards the maintenance of the organ. With over 2,500 pipes that must be kept in tune, as well as a complex mechanism requiring upkeep, maintaining the instrument is an ongoing and costly task.
Organisers have been delighted with the support received in previous years and hope this will continue in 2025.
