This summer sees the return of Clays Gardening Club’s popular Open Gardens and Scarecrow Competition on Sunday 8th June, and residents in North and South Wheatley and Sturton-le-Steeple are encouraged to take part and open up their gardens – you don’t have to be a club member. In addition to showcasing your garden, this event offers a wonderful opportunity to connect with your neighbours, share gardening tips, and inspire others to cultivate their own green spaces.
Participants will be provided with signs to display in their gardens, and a map will guide visitors around the area. Refreshments will also be available at select gardens. Whether your garden is large or small, manicured or wild, every contribution is valued and appreciated. To take part please contact Sharon on 07941 142848 or Alan on 07961 842287. Meanwhile, if you’re interested in learning more about gardening or just want to meet up with friendly like-minded people, then feel free to join the club – try your first meeting for free! On 28th April, herbalist Trudi Norris, will share her skills and knowledge of medicinal herbs and on 19th May Don Witton will be talking ‘Euphorbias and Other Vibrant Perennials’.
From 10th to 13th June there’s the club’s annual garden-themed holiday, this year visiting North Yorkshire, taking in six stunning gardens. There are also trips to Aubourn Hall Gardens (28th May), David Austin Roses (7th July) and the RHS Garden show at Wentworth Woodhouse (18th July). Non-members are welcome to join.
