Retford Rotary Club has been out and about, visiting some of the local organisations it supports and spreading joy with substantial charity donations.
Members of the Santa Run Project Team visited Bassetlaw Food Bank and then Bassetlaw Hospice to present each charity with a cheque for £750 from the proceeds of last December’s Santa Fun Run / Walk. All those who took part in the event, despite the terrible weather on the day, can be assured that, although numbers were small, their participation made a significant contribution.
At the food bank, members learned that £750 would provide 18 families with enough food for a week. At the hospice, as well as presenting the cheque, they had the opportunity to chat with some of the people who attend the regular coffee morning.
It has been decided to hold the Santa Run and Walk event again this year. Hopefully, better weather will prevail and encourage more people to take part. Further details will be available nearer the time.
Members of the Community Committee, together with Club President Marjorie Crooks, visited Hope Community Services. Funds raised from the large Christmas Raffle, combined with a successful Rotary Grant Funding application, enabled the club to raise enough money to replace all the radiators in the emergency accommodation, making a real difference to both staff and users. A member of staff provided a tour of the premises and explained how people needing their support are identified.
It has not all been work, though! Members have enjoyed visits from speakers representing MySight and Bassetlaw Food Bank and also attended the annual Charter Celebration. The Charter Lunch was supported by 90 Rotarians, partners, and friends, who enjoyed a highly social event and a wonderful meal. Entertainment was provided by the Southwell Workhouse Storytellers and was very well received.
Several members were presented with Long Service Certificates.
Finally, this is the last chance to get tickets for the upcoming Fashion Show, which will be held in support of Nottinghamshire Women’s Aid.
Taking place at Ye Olde Bell Hotel, Barnby Moor, on the evening of Wednesday 9th April from 7.00pm, it promises to be a fantastic event. Tickets are priced at just £5.00 and can be obtained from Susan Porter on 07980 882087.
