It has now been a few weeks since The Friends of Bassetlaw Museum came together in late February with guests and members of the public to hear the Museum’s Curator, Dr Mike Galer, talk about the Derbyshire Yeomanry and their role in the First World War. It was a fascinating and very informative talk by a scholar who is also a published author on the subject. The evening was thoroughly enjoyed by all present. It is understood that Dr Galer has other talks in his locker, which may well be presented in the future.
The Friends’ plans are developing for their May event. Some people may have heard that the date was set for Thursday 8th May; please note that it has moved to Thursday 15th May. This change is to avoid any potential clash with local celebrations for the 80th Anniversary of VE Day. That evening will encourage members to bring their own treasured items, family heirlooms, or stories from their family’s past to the Museum to share with fellow members. Watch this space for further information.
There is also a rumour developing that the Irontree Alpacas had such a good time in the Museum gardens last year that they may be planning a return visit in July. The Committee hopes to be able to confirm this soon.
