It has been a long, cold and wet winter, but for Muddy Fork, Retford’s Gardening for Wellbeing charity, spring is finally in the air, and it will not be long before the planting season is fully underway.
Meanwhile, garden maintenance – an ongoing task – has continued. Some of the raised beds, which had completely rotted away, have been repaired, while moss removal has helped where the damage was less severe. Beds have been dug over and topped up, and everything is now looking neat and tidy. Work has also progressed on the construction of a wood store, which will be a valuable asset in the future.
There is also heart-warming news regarding the generosity of the local community. An anonymous donation arrived in the form of two splendid brand-new cold frames. With Father Christmas now on annual leave, this can only be the work of a Fairy Godmother (or father). Whoever you are, thank you! These cold frames have been placed on stands to ensure they remain rabbit-proof – although only time will tell – and they will certainly be put to good use soon.
Further good news comes with a grant for security cameras for the site, thanks to Councillor Mike Quigley. These have now been installed, providing peace of mind for staff and helping to prevent financial losses from potential break-ins. Muddy Fork is immensely grateful for this overwhelming support from the community.
