There is a belief that every action has an impact on everything else—people, animals, and the environment. This concept, often referred to as the butterfly effect, originates from the idea that the flapping of a butterfly’s wings could, in theory, set off a chain reaction leading to a typhoon weeks later and miles away.
At the Wednesday Group, the effect of small actions on others is seen regularly, often in a short space of time. A simple ‘Ah, that’s lovely,’ when someone is handed a cup of tea or coffee just the way they like it, the welcoming smile of another member, or the steadying hand of a volunteer – these small acts of kindness create a sense of warmth and belonging. The impact is visible in people’s faces, their body language, and in the fact that they return week after week. It is a powerful and uplifting experience.
For those caring for someone with dementia, living with a diagnosis themselves, or simply wanting to learn more, the Wednesday Group may offer valuable support.
